Intentions for this Site

As I proceed through my college education, I’ve realized that I have a lot of things to say and no good place to say them. There are ideas I need to record or get out, and other means for doing so have become not so viable. I have thought for a long time that a website would be a good medium for this—I like the idea of having a blog for casual thoughts, having different pages for longer written reflections, being able to link different pages to each other—but the trouble I keep running into is that I want this record to be relatively private. I don’t want to use this website like a social media. I don’t want to write towards an audience of followers; I want my future self to be the primary audience for my writing. I don’t have a reason to be secret about my thoughts, so I don’t need to lock them behind a password or anything. Nevertheless I want this website to have a relatively private character.

This desire for a private character is one of the reasons why I am choosing Neocities as a website builder. I have messed around with other website builders, but I don’t like all of the helpful little features they have in place for the fast production of something sleek and sharable. I don’t like the built-in social media linking features and I can’t seem to get away from the AI tools. I realized I want to have more control over the structure of my pages; I would prefer them to look a bit elementary and simple than to be confined to the sleek and sharable templates these website builders provide you from the outset. I also think this would be a good opportunity to learn HTML.

I hope that my intentions laid out here act as a guide for my future work on this site.
